Active COVID cases rise by 173, one new death reported

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s number of active COVID-19 cases rose by 173 and there was one new COVID-related death, according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 395 new cases and 221 new recoveries, pushing the amount of active infections to 2,615 (there were 2,456 one week ago). The death brought the state’s total to 193.

So far, South Dakota has had 17,686 confirmed cases and 14,878 recoveries. There are currently 138 people hospitalized in connection with the virus.

According to the Department of Health website, there are more than 100 active cases associated with the women’s prison in Pierre.

Locally, Brown County had 20 new cases and 21 new recoveries, lowering the amount of active cases to 123. So far the county has had 919 confirmed cases, 853 recoveries and three total deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 6,033 cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,897, and Lincoln County with 1,150. Other counties totals include Beadle with 679, Codington with 638, Brookings with 622, and Clay with 526.
