Active COVID infections drop by more than 1,100; two new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – Active infections dropped by more than 1,100, hospitalizations dipped as well and there were two new COVID-related deaths, according to totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 345 new confirmed cases and 1,447 recoveries, lowering the amount of active cases by 1,102 to 11,519, the lowest total since October.

The number of individuals hospitalized in connection with the virus fell by six to 435. The two deaths increased the overall death toll to 1,261.

In all, the state has had 91,699 confirmed cases and 78,919 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 13 new confirmed cases and 74 recoveries, decreasing the amount of active infections by 61 to 456. So far, the county has had 4,092 confirmed cases and 3,592 recoveries. There have been 44 total COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 23,269 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 10,093, and Lincoln County with 6,155. Other counties totals include Codington 3,168, Brookings with 2,735, Davison with 2,589, Beadle with 2,426, Lawrence with 2,342, Yankton with 2,241, and Meade with 2,042.
