Active infections down, hospitalizations up, no new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s active COVID-19 infections decreased by more than 100 and there were no new deaths, however the number of people hospitalized in connection with the virus jumped up, according to totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 195 new cases along with 306 new recoveries, lowering the amount of active cases to 2,386 (there were 2,679 one week ago). The number of COVID-related deaths remained at 184. The number of people hospitalized reached 133, it’s highest total since the pandemic began, but still well below the thousands that officials had projected by this time.

South Dakota has had 16,944 confirmed cases and 14,424 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 15 new cases and 27 new recoveries, lowering the amount of active infections to 127. The county has had 946 confirmed cases and 816 recoveries. There have been three total deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 5,938 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,841, and Lincoln County with 1,108. Other counties totals include Beadle with 666, Brookings with 603, Codington with 597, and Clay with 517.
