ADA’s Executive Director Alexa Sheldon react to council passing BID Tax increase

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen City Council on Monday night passed an ordinance to raise the BID Tax increase from four to six cents per square foot.

Aberdeen Downtown Association Executive Director Alexa Sheldon reflect back on the process that led to the passage on Monday night.

Sheldon talks about what the BID District is.

Sheldon explain how she got the process started to address the BID District tax.

Sheldon initial proposal was to raise it to eight cents per square foot and she discuss how they determined that figure.

Through the process, the city requested to lower the rate down to six cents and place $25,000 from the budget to address the district.  Sheldon was pleased that a compromise could be agreed upon by those involved.

One concern the city council had was communication between the ADA and those involved with downtown.  Sheldon addressed that topic.

The ordinance is scheduled to go into effect on September 10th.
