PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – An interim South Dakota legislative committee studying illegal drugs decided more treatment options are needed but kept drug ingestion as a felony.

Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says he told the committee that dropping ingestion to a misdemeanor wouldn’t slow the spread of drugs.

Ravnsborg says more treatment options has to be a priority.

Ravnsborg also states that the Department of Corrections is short on probation officers.

Ravnsborg says he wished legislators would pay as much attention to meth as they are to hemp.
