Air show at Pierre Regional Airport postponed to 2021

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – The coronavirus is causing the postponement of the “Let Freedom Fly” airshow at Pierre Regional Airport to 2021. Organizer Jim Pietz with Mustang Aviation of Pierre says the military assets lined up to take part in the Independence Day weekend show are grounded due to quarantine.

The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds is a Canadian air demonstration team much akin to the U.S. Thunderbirds or Blue Angels. The air show also secured American fighter planes for combat demonstration flights with A-10 Warthog and F-A-18 Hornet aircraft. Pietz says the air show’s committee is working to get the Snowbirds for 2021.

Pierre City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the delay may not be the worst thing to happen.

The “Let Freedom Fly Airshow” in now targeted for July 3 and 4 of 2021 at the Pierre Regional Airport.
