Appropriation Committee hears about ways to fund for renovations of the State Capitol

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- The Interim Joint Committee on Appropriations heard about plans by the Bureau of Administration to reappropriate space for state government in Pierre.  BOA Commissioner Scott Bollinger says one of the easier moves is with the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications or BIT.

That move would move staff out of leased space in the Sammons Building near the S-Curve and Avera St. Mary’s Hopsital.

Bollinger hopes to have employees from the Social Services Department moved by the end of the year.  The projects will get bigger in scope from there.

Lawmakers asked about use of the Capitol building basement for some sort of meeting or office space during the Legislative session.  The changes also include moving all of the Secretary of State office staffers to the Capitol as well moving all staff from a state building on Nicollette Avenue to the Capitol
