PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- If spring weather would ever decide to stay many construction projects will likely get started. April is National Safe Digging Month and Mark Hanson with Montana-Dakota Utilities says safe digging should be a year round cause.
Hanson says striking underground utilities that aren’t marked is the lead cause for utility outages.
Hanson says utility locations can shift over time.
An 811 one-call service will locate all underground utility infrastructure at a location including gas, electric, communications, water or sewer lines. Once a line is marked you should carefully hand dig within two feet of marked lines to determine the exact location before starting a project.
