HURON, S.D.(WNAX)- The ongoing snow melt could lead to flooding on area rivers.
The Corps of Engineers had a briefing for the Board of Directors of the James River Water Development District at their meeting last week in Huron.
District Manager Dave Bartel says the Corps, who controls the Pipestem Dam on the river in North Dakota, didn’t have a lot of clear information.
Bartel says past floods have damaged the river banks.
Bartel says a continued slow melt would be best.
The National Weather Service is predicting moderate flooding on the James River from Columbia through Stratford to just north of Huron.
