PIERRE, S.D.(KMIT)- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has released the final ballot explanation for a proposed constitutional amendment that would repeal the single subject rule.
The law as it currently stands is why the South Dakota Supreme Court nullified a voter-passed amendment to the state constitution that would have legalized recreational marijuana use. The court ruled that the amendment passed by voters contained at least three different subjects. Jackley says if enough signatures are collected, voters will decide if amendments can contain multiple subjects.
The proposed amendment was submitted by Quincy Hanzen of Sioux Falls.
