MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley was in Mitchell yesterday afternoon to answer voters’ questions about the ballot issues. Amendment H was one of the issues that got voters’ attention. Jackley explained that under Amendment H candidates could pick whatever party affiliation they wanted to, regardless of whether they were actually a member of that party or not. He also commented on what might happen in a non-partisan, catch as catch can, “jungle” primary:
Independent and non-affiliated voters as well as Democrats can already vote in the Democratic Primary. The Republican primary allows only registered Republicans to vote. The Party Chairs of the Democrat, Republican and Libertarian Party have all come out in opposition to Amendment H.
