Attorney General Marty Jackley react to ruling banning men out of women’s locker rooms

PIERRE, S.D.(KELO)- A last minute legal victory that keeps men out of women and girl’s locker rooms in the region.

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals is blocking the U-S Education Department from forcing states to allow the practice, or be stripped of funding.

Attorney General Marty Jackley praises the ruling.

The rule goes into effect in Minnesota this Thursday, because Minnesota didn’t join the lawsuit to challenge it.

Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas and both Dakota’s were part of the lawsuit.

Jackley is thankful for the ruling, saying it overturns an abuse of Title IX protections intended to protect female athletes.

Jackley says Congress needs to go to work on cases like that.

The 8th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the rule from taking effect this week…but only in the states that filed the lawsuit.
