MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- Marty Jackley has been the South Dakota Attorney General responsible for investigation such scandals and EB5, Gear Up, the $1.8 million embezzlement from the Department of Social Services currently in the courts and now the vehicle title fraud out of the Department of Revenue. Jackley has some suggestions for the Legislature starting with:
Jackley says this legislation is important because the statute of limitations begins to run when someone, other than the perpetrator, in state government knows about the situation. Even if the Attorney General’s Office is in the dark, if someone else in the government knows, that clock begins to run.
Jackley wants additional whistleblower legislation.
In addition, Jackley thinks that the Legislature and the public have a right to know what’s been reported and what, if anything, was done about it.
Jackley also says that state government audits and controls need to be tighter and have better supervision and accountability.
