McPHERSON COUNTY, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Another candidate has announced their candidacy for the 2026 South Dakota Attorney General race.
Current McPherson County Deputy State’s Attorney Austin Hoffman is running for South Dakota Attorney General.
Hoffman will be the second Republican running in the race, joining Fall River and Oglala County State Attorney Lance Russell.
Current South Dakota AG Marty Jackley is running for Congress in 2026.
Hoffman, a McPherson County native and 2016 USD law school graduate, opened a private law practice in Eureka, and has served as the McPherson County Deputy State’s Attorney since 2020.
According to his campaign website, Hoffman will, as Attorney General, “enforce the law without apology and without political games”.’
“Having been raised on a cattle ranch, Austin has a connection to the land and an appreciation for agriculture.” His campaign website continued. “These are things he carries with him today. He knows the issues important to South Dakota and the values our citizens hold dear.”
The primary candidate for Attorney General will be selected in the summer of 2026, with the general election occuring on Nov. 3, 2026.
