COVID-19 clinics continue to be busy with meeting the demand for booster vaccinations and vaccinating 5-11 year olds. A pediatric clinic is scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. That clinic will be held in the lower level of State Street Medical Square. According to the CDC, it is safe to receive both the flu and COVID vaccinations at the same time.
Those seeking a COVID-19 vaccine should call 605-622-5273 or email aslcovidvaccine@avera.org. Online self-scheduling is not available. Vaccines can also be given at local pharmacies and clinics. To find availability, visit vaccines.gov. Flu vaccines can be scheduled by calling your primary care provider.
Those being vaccinated at Avera will complete a form that is also available here. Those under 18 need parental or guardian consent. Because of changes with state funding, staff will also ask for insurance cards. Vaccines remain free, and insurance is not needed in order to get vaccinated.
Everyone getting vaccinated takes part in a 15-minute observation period. Those that have had a prior reaction to any vaccine will need to be observed for a half hour. Most people are in, vaccinated and out the door in less than a half hour.
Masks are required, as in an Avera facility.
