AVON, S.D. (WNAX) – Firefighters from seven departments were called to a fire in Avon that destroyed a long-time business and threatened other buildings in the area.

The fire call at Powers Furniture and Appliance was received about 7:30 Tuesday night.

The Bon Homme County Sheriffs office says fire units from Avon, Tyndall, Tabor, Springfield, Wagner, Dante and Yankton responded to the fire.

The fire appears to have started in the upper portion of the furniture store, which covers about half a block in the downtown.
