PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- Backers of legalizing marijuana in South Dakota turned in their ballot initiative petitions to the Secretary of States office this week.
Spokesman Matthew Schweich says while they wait for the verification of their petitions, they will work to defeat Amendment “C” on the June primary ballot.
Schwiech says they don’t want to see interference with the initiative and referendum process.
Schweich says the June primary should be reserved for only nominating candidates.
If Amendment “C” is approved, it would force any ballot issue that could spend ten million dollars or more to be approved with a sixty percent vote margin.
