Barnett says his office will help counties who want vote centers

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – While the next round of state-wide elections are months away, preparations are well underway.

A number of counties in South Dakota have been using vote centers, with electronic registrations and the ability to vote at any polling place in the county.

Secretary of State Steve Barnett says some adjustments will have to be made in those counties.

Barnett says it is up to each county to decide if they want to go to vote centers.

Barnett says his office will work with any county that wants to move in that direction.

There were connection issues in some counties during the November general election that slowed the voting process. That led to the legislature adding the poll book requirement.
