BASEC welcomes new board members

DOLAND, S.D. (Press Release) – BASEC (Beadle and Spink Enterprise Community) recently added two new members to their Board of Directors: Bailey Coats from Doland and Kathy Micheel from Cavour.

Bailey Coats joined the BASEC board in September 2020. She and her husband, Josh, raise cow/calf pairs and row crops on their farm southwest of Doland. Coats is also the Ag teacher and FFA advisor at Doland High School.

“Part of being an FFA advisor is always having an awareness of what needs a community has and how we can help,” Coats said. “The BASEC organization strives to improve the communities we live in and this seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to marry my heart for service and chance to influence how our communities develop, operate and grow.”

Coats was familiar with BASEC long before joining the Board of Directors. She and Josh financed the purchase of their home through BASEC in November, 2015.

“We have always been happy with the service that BASEC provides to us and we were proud to keep our business local when it came to financing that purchase,” Coats said.

Kathy Micheel joined the BASEC Board of Directors in May 2020.  She lives south of Cavour with her husband, Matt, and their two children, raising corn and soybeans and operating a cow/calf and backgrounding program. Her family’s club calf business, Boot Creek Farms Show Cattle, strives to implement better genetics into the cattle industry.

Micheel is a Crop Adjuster for Zurich NA/RCIS, the owner of I Lead Promotions, LLC, the technology and marketing advisor for the Western Junior Livestock Show, and a travel agent.

Micheel said, “As a BASEC board member, I hope to help our rural communities grow and thrive; whether that is helping the farmers and ranchers expand their current operation or assisting with new or current businesses in an urban or a rural setting.”
