Basin still records above average runoff despite drought

OMAHA, Neb. (WNAX) – Weather conditions across the upper Missouri River basin changed rapidly this year, from very wet early on to spreading drought into the fall.

Kevin Grode, a hydrologist with the Corps of Engineers in Omaha, says they still recorded an above average year in river runoff.

Grode says they are working on their forecast for next year.

Grode says flows from Gavins Point Dam will be slowly reduced next month.

During their update, Corps officials said they will have reservoir system storage at winter levels by Dec. 1.
