Better Business Bureau offer warning about scams

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- The Better Business Bureau is sounding the alarm.

The number of Identity and Information scam reports is rising dramatically…with federal agencies reporting over three-million cases last year.

Jessie Schmidt of BBB-South Dakota says it’s important to take action to protect yourself.

Schmidt says you should also freeze your credit with the reporting agencies so scammers can’t open accounts or take out loans even if they get your personal information.

Over three million online scam reports in 2024…and growing.

The Better Business Bureau says you can work to avoid becoming a statistic by checking your credit reports with the three major reporting companies regularly…and freezing your credit.

Schmidt of BBB-South Dakota says that will prevent strangers from taking out loans in your name.

All three credit reporting companies provide one free report per year.

Schmidt suggests checking one of them every four months to stay up to date.
