ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- The 20th Big Idea Competition is now underway.  Coordinator and Regional Director for Small Business Development Center Kelly Weaver appeared on the KSDN Midday Report to provide a preview of what’s to come.

Weaver has been there since the beginning and talked about how this came about almost twenty years ago.(1:05)

Applications from high school students are now being accepted through October.

In years passed they took applications from students from all over the country.  This year they are only accepting applications from students living in North and South Dakota & Minnesota.  Weaver explains why.

In honor of the twentieth year, they are adding a new forum for this year’s event.  It’s called the BIG Futures Student Success Summit.

Over $50,000 in cash and scholarships will be given away.  Northern State, Dakota State, and USD have awarded them in the past.  This year for the first time Lake Area Tech and SDSU are providing scholarships for this event.

The competition will take place on Wednesday, December 9th at the Johnson Fine Arts Center at NSU.
