Bill allowing ivermectin to be used by doctors for COVID-19 clears House Health & Human Services Committee

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota House Health and Human Services Committee debated a bill last Thursday that would allow medical professionals to dispense ivermectin with or without a prescription to people infected with Covid-19.

Bill sponsor, Representative Phil Jensen of Rapid City said it should be a treatment option.

Tim Rave, President of the South Dakota Association of Health Care Organizations, opposed the bill.

Representative Kaleb Weis of Aberdeen said its hard to know who or what to believe.

Representative Paul Miskimins of Mitchell said the committee shouldn’t make these kind of decisions.

The bill got a do pass recommendation on a vote of seven to six and will now go to the House floor.

The bill has cleared the South Dakota House and is now heading to the Senate.
