PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- One of the bills prefiled for next weeks South Dakota legislative session would set in law a joint committee for legislative redistricting.
Representative Richard Vasgaard of Centerville is a co-sponsor and says the bill was a result of the controversial redistricting process last year.
Vasgaard says the special session to approve the new map was drawn out too long.
Vasgaard says the process in prior years was handled much more efficiently.
Vasgaard was critical of the way Districts 16 and 17 in southeast South Dakota were redrawn after protests by residents of those areas.
