Bill to depoliticize the Board of Regents passed SD House Education Committee

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A hoghoused bill that would change the political make up of the South Dakota Board of Regents passed out of the House Education Committee after some debate.

Representative Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls led the effort to rewrite the rules for the Regents.

Representative Hugh Bartels of Watertown didn’t like the process.

Representative Bethany Soye of Sioux Falls says the change would open the board up to more people.

The bill did move on a do pass motion by a vote of 9 to 6.
