PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A bill that supporters say would promote fairness for women in sports was defeated Wednesday in the South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee. The bill would restrict trans gender student’s participation in women’s sports.
Bill sponsor, Representative Rhonda Milstead of Hartford told the committee the bill wouldn’t ban anyone from competition.
Committee member, Senator Jim Bolin of Canton, says there is a lot of fear tied to the debate.
Committee member, Senator Lee Schoenbeck of Watertown was opposed.
The bill was killed on a vote of 6-3.
