Bills dealing with healthy sexual relationships go into effect Saturday

BROOKINGS, S.D.(KJJQ)- Two bills become law today that will help ensure everyone has the right to a safe and healthy sexual relationship.

The State Legislature passed, and the Governor signed, Senate Bills 90 and 91 which define consent and make sex without consent a felony.

District 7 State Senator Tim Reed of of Brookings was prime sponsor of the bills. He says they closed a serious loophole in what was considered rape.

Reed says this was an important step.

He says this has come up South Dakota cases.

Both the State Senate and House of Representatives passed the bills with overwhelming support.
