PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The 4th of July holiday brings not only a good time, but plenty of warnings as well. Be careful with fireworks. Don’t drink and drive and for watercraft users in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area, watch out for the bridge construction.
Pierre Area Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation Dean VanDeWiele says the message of safety extends to anglers and those recreating.
VanDeWiele says boat traffic has been fairly mindful of the construction so far through the project.
Bridge Work Ahead signs are installed on the east and west river banks 500 feet from the work zones. Solar lights are in place on construction barges in the river and buoys are in place to warn about materials sticking out of the water.
