SDGA Junior Championship @ The Bluffs GC (Vermillion, SD) [Day 2 of 3]
Yankton, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – Two rounds down & one to go for the SDGA Junior Championship for Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun; there’s one word that she’ll be trying to accomplish on the links in Yankton on Wednesday: “finish.”
After the first day of action at “The Bluffs,” Braun was one under par and enjoyed a one stroke lead over Rapid City’s Lauren Knapp. Knapp struggled from the jump on Tuesday, carding a triple bogey on the par five, second hole, she was playing uphill all day. Knapp finished +12 and is now in distant fourth place. Jayce Pugh of Miller also had a tough day. She was just two strokes off the lead after Monday and she was unable to find her stroke all afternoon, shooting +8 on the day and no birdies.
Battling the 90 degree temperatures, Braun carded a [+3, 75] and finished the day two over par. She picked up a birdie on the par five, sixth hole + a birdie on the par five 15th hole. Braun now has a two stroke lead over Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink, who’s lurking for a chance to make a run at the title on Wednesday. Meyerink shot a [+2, 74] for the second consecutive day.
Braun will look to exorcise the demons from this last week when she fell one stroke short of winning the SDGA Sanford Title from Minnehaha CC in Sioux Falls (against Meyerink). Meyerink also defeated Braun by one stroke to win the SDHSAA “AA” title in Yankton back in early June; on Wednesday, Braun will hope that the third time will be the proverbial charm.
