2024 Sanford Futures Championship (Day 1 of 2) Larchwood, IA

LARCHWOOD, IA (HubCityRadio.com) – The Sanford Futures Championship got underway on Monday from Larchwood, IA and a few familiar names are at the top of the leaderboard after day one. The Sanford Futures championship brings together the best college and high school players from around the region; high school golfers come from both Dakota’s, Minnesota, Nebraska & Iowa and it’s a 36 hole event for the high schoolers & 54 holes for the college men.

Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun & Miller’s Jayce Pugh are both tied for first place after the first day of action from Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Larchwood.

For Pugh, she struggled on the front nine, but came out a different golfer on the back half. She started on the front nine six over par with a double bogey on the first hole and finished the front nine, seven over par. However, the back nine was a different story; Pugh would birdie the par four 10th hole & also birdie the par four 12th & pick up a birdie on the par five 17th hole, before ending the round with a bogey on the 18th hole.

Olivia Braun, who won this tournament last year, ended the front nine with three bogeys and three over par, on the back nine, she started off on the right foot with a birdie on the par four 10th hole & also picked up a birdie on the par four 14th hole. She would have bogeys on 11, 13, 15 & 16 and finds herself tied with Pugh, as well as Clark’s Brynn Roehrich. Those three with tee off in the final group at 7:50a on Tuesday morning.
