BROOKINGS, S.D. (KJJQ) – The Brookings School Board is dealing with two elementary schools badly in need of upgrades.
Hillcrest and Medary Elementary Schools each have more than $10-million in deferred maintenance. Brookings School Superintendent Klint Willert says they can pick a project or two at a time and move ahead. However, he also says a decision needs to be made on Hillcrest and whether it makes sense to put money into that building.
School Board Member Roger DeGroot says Hillcrest is a difficult decision.
Willert agrees Hillcrest is at that critical threshhold.
Willert says they will continue to discuss this critical issue.
