Brookings Fire Chief announced his retirement effective immediately

BROOKINGS, S.D.(KJJQ)- Brookings Fire Chief Darrell Hartmann has retired after 23 years of service.

Deputy Fire Chief Pete Bolzer will serve as Interim Fire Chief.

Hartmann is facing a drunk driving charge after being arrested last month.

According to Police Chief David Erickson, Hartmann was pulled over about midnight on March 19th, was given a field sobriety test, and was then arrested. He was released on bond the following Saturday morning. A court date is set for April 26th.

On this matter, Brookings City Manager Paul Briseno  said “the city does not publicly comment on personnel matters.”
