Brookings man sentenced for 21 months for counterfeit $20 bills

BROOKINGS, S.D.(KXLG)- Julian Huffman, 28, of Brookings, SD, was sentenced Tuesday to 21 months in federal prison for making dozens of $20 federal reserve notes and passing them at several businesses in and near Brookings, SD.

Restitution and forfeiture were ordered, along with three years of supervised release and a special Federal Crime Victims Fund assessment for $100.

The conviction stemmed from incidents between September 9, 2022 – November 21, 2022, and a federal grand jury indicted him in December 2022.

The Brookings Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann M. Hoffman prosecuted the case.

Huffman was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
