Brookings School Board set up COVID-19 protocols for the upcoming school year

BROOKINGS, S.D.(KJJQ)- The Brookings School Board passes the “Bobcat Tracks” plan for the
return to school next month.

School Superintendent Klint Willert says it’s a revised version of last year’s plan. Willert says they plan to begin the year with masks optional.

The plan also calls for in the classroom, face-to-face instruction.  Willert says they will work with parents if there are documented medical situations requiring an alternative.

Willert says depending on what happens with COVID-19, all options will remain on the table. He says they’ll look carefully at the impacts on the schools, the community and the health care systems.

COVID-19 vaccinations will not be required but are encouraged for those who are eligible.

School Board President Melissa Heermann says they will need to be flexible.

August 25th is the first day of school.
