Broom Time: Wolves Sweep Beavers

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) [Games 1 & 2] – An explosive offense by the Northern State University baseball team led to two wins over Bemidji State, 19-4 and 19-9. The Wolves tallied 19 runs off of 30 hits with 15 extra base hits on the day. Nicholas Ochoa led the way for the Wolves, going 6-for-10 with ten RBIs and two homeruns on the day. Max Otto broke the school record with 241 career strikeouts in the game one win.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1

  • Bemidji State was the first to score on the day with two runs in the top of the first
  • Northern State responded back in the bottom of the first as Nicholas Ochoa drove one over the left field fence for a solo home run; Karson Hesser tied the game up as he reached first base on an error by the second baseman that scored Brennan Phillips
  • In the second inning, Ochoa doubled to left field to scored Andrew Wedwick to take the lead
  • Jack Weidner drove the ball over the left center fence for a solo homerun; Nick Fridges kept the inning rolling as he knocked one over the right field fence for a solo homerun to lead by three runs
  • The Beavers chipped away from the deficit in the top of the fourth with two runs off of a homerun and a triple
  • Ochoa kicked off the fifth inning with a triple that scored Dylan Soulek, Wedwick, and Friedges; Phillips drove in Ochoa on a single to left field to lead by five runs

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) [Game 3] – A late lead by the Northern State Baseball team led to the 11-5 win over Bemidji State Sunday afternoon. The Wolves rallied back in the sixth inning to take the win with nine hits on the day. NSU conclude the weekend with a series sweep over BSU, 3-0.
