ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Brown County Commission on Tuesday set the guidelines for any wind energy projects wanting to do that in Brown County.
Brown County Auditor Lynn Heupel went over the ordinance.
Brown County Commissioner Duane Sutton talks about how this has been a work in progress with everyone involved.
The commission approved the ordinance on a 5-0 vote.
Some of the setbacks in place include the following:
Distance from occupied structures to wind turbines can be no less than 1/2 mile.
Distance from structures, right of ways, and non-participating properties to turbines shall not be less than 110% of the height of the turbine.
Distance from lake front properties to turbines are to be a minimum of 1 1/2 miles.
Distance from municipalities to turbines are to a minimum of two miles.
