ABERDEEN, S.D. (Hub City Radio)-
On Friday, the Brown County Commission officially canvassed the 2026 elections that were held on Tuesday.
Brown County Auditor Lynn Heupel told the commission that the vote centers were fairly steady for the balance of the day.
Heupel reported no provisionals for this election and talked about how many did vote in Brown County.
Heupel told the commission the official percentage of voters in the county was which was below the 50% posted on the Secretary of State’s website.
One issue that delayed the vote tally was the high number of under votes displayed on all the issues. One example was the number of under votes for the county sales tax. The Brown County Commission commented about that.
The County Commission approved the election results. They also determined what will be audited.
The vote center to be used for the audit will be Stratford. They had a total of 129 ballots.
The two races to be used are the State Auditor. Catherine Barrasco(R) had 72 while Tom Cool(D) had 46.
The other is Amendment I where No had 67 vote while Yes had 54 votes.
That audit will take place at 5pm, Thursday, November 12th and is open to the public.
