ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Brown County Commission on Tuesday heard an update on the upcoming Richmond Dam and spillway project from Commissioner of School and Public Lands, Brock Greenfield.
Greenfield went over the timeline of the bids for the project that first came in back in early March
Greenfield talks about the next step they did leading to the rebidding of this project on Friday before Veto Day.
Greenfield goes over the timeline about when the project will get started.
Greenfield explains this will be done in two phases. He explains the first stage will hope to be done by early 2027 when they hope to refill the lake next to it.
Greenfield also explain the responsibility to get this dam done is a state issue and not necessarily a city or council issue.
Some concerns were raised in this meeting. Chris Rea talks about who has the responsibility for Richmond Lake itself.
Todd Campbell talks about his concerns about this project.
Another aspect is the road and bridge connected to the dam will be closed. Highway superintendent Dirk Rogers has more.
Rogers discuss alternate routes once this road is closed.
If all goes well, they hope to have the dam and spillway operational in the year 2028.
