ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Brown County Auditor’s Office audited the results from last Tuesday’s Primary Election on Wednesday.
They used two vote centers for the audit. The votes from Westport Town Hall(87 votes) and Frederick Community Center(83 votes).
The two races they are using are the U.S. House race and the Delegates to the State Convention.
These votes were hand counted to compare with those tabulated by machine.
The results on election night were the following:
U.S. House Race:
Westport had Marty Jackley with 66 votes James Bialota with 16 votes.
Frederick had Marty Jackley with 67 votes James Bialota with 8 votes.
Delegates to State Convention:
Westport:
Ashton Dennert 55
Wayne Bierman 38
Maryann Bierman 30
Charlene Cornelius 23
Frederick:
Ashton Dennert 40
Wayne Bierman 30
Maryann Bierman 26
Charlene Cornelius 22
Here’s how the hand count was done. Five people were hired by the Auditor’s Office to perform the hand count.
The first step was to verify the number of ballots casted that day matched what was going to be counted by hand.
Afterwards, one person would announce the name on the ballot while the other person would mark it down. They had four people total doing that. Essentially they were double checking to insure the numbers match the vote tally done by the tabulating machines on election night.
At the end of the day the audit confirmed that the vote did match the vote tally exactly on election night. How they got there was interesting.
One pair had to count by hand three different times on tallies for the U.S. House race in Westport and the Delegates to the State Convention in Frederick.
The other pair had to hand count twice for the U.S. House race in Frederick.
We also learned that for now there will be no audit needed for the runoff election for the Republican nomination for Governor. That election takes place on Tuesday, July 28th. Absentee voting is set to begin on Friday. The deadline to register to vote for the runoff is July 13th.
