The Commissioners of Brown County had plenty to talk about at their most recent meeting. The first item addressed was again in regard to the “Women’s” Building at the Fairgrounds. After repeated attempts, Citizen Dennis Jones implored the Commissioners to try and save the aged building. Commissioners expressed their desire to find a way, but after every effort had been exhausted, and the research done, they maintained that it was not economically possible to leave the building where it is.
The Commission voted unanimously to Surplus the building, which is the first step towards any further developments. Attending to another issue, opportunity knocked and the Commission agreed to buy a building that was better suited to expand the jail when the offer was extended.
They then will enter into a lease agreement with ZuntaFi for the building they recently purchased and then to buy the building ZuntaFi was in. Chairmen Sutton called it a win – win.
The building sale price was 1.8 Million. They will lease the previous building for 10 years at $9,000 a month, and would pay for the building initially bought as a jail expansion.
