Brown County Commission will consider bids to assist with jail needs assessment

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- Brown County has its choice of five bids from firms seeking to help with a needs assessment for the jail.

Bids to provide owner representation services were opened Tuesday at the county commission meeting, but no decision was made and few details were discussed.

Owner representation is a service that ensures that the best interests of the owners of a new building or facility are represented throughout the project.

Brown and some surrounding counties are contemplating the idea of a regional jail that would likely be in Aberdeen.

The owner representation proposals were submitted by HMN Architects of Overland Park, Kan.; Tegra Group of St. Louis Park, Minn.;  Elevatus of Fort Wayne, Ind.; KMS Engineering of Sioux Falls; and Donlar Construction of Waite Park, Minn.

Representatives from some of the firms were at the meeting and took a few minutes to address the commission, noting their experience in jail construction.

The proposals will now be reviewed by State’s Attorney Ernest Thompson and Chief Deputy Dave Lunzman, who has a background in law enforcement. Asked by the commission if a recommendation could be provided next week, Thompson said he should be able to provide a timeline next week as to when a decision will be made.
