Brown County Courthouse starting business by appointment only

ABERDEEN, S.D. (aberdeennews.com) – Starting today those with business at the Brown County Courthouse annex should call ahead and make an appointment if it’s necessary to meet in person.

Brown County commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday that closed the courthouse to the public and sets up a table at the main annex entry with information about each office and phone numbers to call for appointments. The action is to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A drop box will be set up so residents can leave paperwork or payments, and a doorbell will be set up to reach one of the county offices.

According to the resolution, department supervisors will have discretion to set up in-person appointments.

Commissioner Mike Wiese made a motion close the courthouse to the public effective Tuesday afternoon, but it was later amended to take effect today as commissioners discussed the nuances of how public services would be handled.
