Brown County deputy cited for careless driving after wreck that sends man to hospital

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Aberdeen American News)- A Brown County deputy has been cited for careless driving after a Monday morning crash in Aberdeen.

A Brown County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle driven by Erin Spencer, 24, had its running lights and sirens activated when it struck a vehicle driven by Ryan Schaeffer, 43, of Aberdeen, according to an accident report from the Aberdeen Police Department.

The crash was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Schaeffer was southbound in the 100 block of South Kline Street, and Spencer was eastbound in the 300 block of Second Avenue Southeast, according to the report.

Schaeffer was taken to a hospital with head and neck injuries, according to the report. Spencer was injured but not taken by ambulance.
