The You Show Us Contest is an annual state/local roads and innovation and practical problem solving competition presented during South Dakota’s local transportation and road conference. Superintendent Dirk Rogers submitted an ingenious adaption that was the brain child of the Highways Department’s Josh Matthews. A shouldering machine that protects and evens the edges of asphalt roads.

Several things are considered in the judging, certainly the effectiveness of the machine after trials is a big part of it.

The attachment, protects the road edges, as well as takes away any lip or edge that is left on the edge of the asphalt by laying gravel along it, increasing safety. public feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
