Buffalo Chip Campground near Sturgis looks to ba a part of the Meade Rural Ambulance Service

STURGIS, S.D.(KBHB) – The Sturgis City Council meets tonight, and on their agenda, a surprising request from the Buffalo Chip Campground.

Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says Chip owner Rod Woodruff has reportedly reached out to the Rural Meade Ambulance District and asked to be included in the district’s ambulance response area.

This follows the formation of the district and an earlier request to opt out by the campground.

The district was formed by rural citizens to help the city of Sturgis pay for ambulance to the rural areas. The district decided to set up a contract with the Sturgis Ambulance Service to continue with their services rather than start one of their own.

Because the Rural Meade Ambulance Service contracts with the city of Sturgis, the city council will hear the consideration to include the Buffalo Chip Campground during their meeting tonight.

The request comes just 11 days before the start of this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
