CUSTER, S.D.(KOTA)- Fourteen hundred buffalo are expected to be moved from the prairie to their pens at Custer State Park for this year’s Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival, which opens today and runs through Saturday.
Kobee Stalder, visitor services program manager at Custer State Park, says the sound of the herd alone transports him to another time.
Stalder said it’s going to take dozens of riders to corral these animals.
While the roundup itself is the undoubted main event, Stalder said there is plenty to be excited about at the arts festival too.
Today marks the official start to the event with the arts festival opening at 10:00 am and runs through Saturday. The actual roundup will take place at 9:30 am Friday morning.
