Burke teen identified in fatal crash

BURKE, S.D. (Press release) – A Burke juvenile male has been identified as the person who died Friday night in a two-vehicle crash east of Burke.

A 1996 Chrysler Eagle Vision was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 18 when it crossed the center line and collided head on with a westbound 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup pulling a flatbed trailer.

Zane Goitia, 16, was driving the Chrysler and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sustaining life-threatening injuries was Kaycee Martin of Burke, the 29-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was transferred by ambulance to the Burke hospital and then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

The two drivers were the only people involved in the crash.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
