California woman arrested after chase through Fort Pierre, Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. (DRG News) – Charges are pending against a 37-year-old woman from Oakland, CA, after a chase Monday that started about nine miles west of Fort Pierre.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, they received a traffic complaint about a vehicle going east on SD Highway 34. A trooper located the vehicle on U.S. Highway 14 about 5:15 p.m. and tried to initiate a traffic stop.

Vehicle driver Jamila Drew did not slow down and the pursuit began. The vehicle continued east into Fort Pierre where it crashed into a tractor truck and semi trailer. The 37-year-old male driver was not injured.

The pursuit then went through the intersection of US Highways 14 and 83, came across the bridge into Pierre and then onto Sioux Avenue. The vehicle turned onto Pierre Street and came to a stop in front of the Hardware Hank store. The female driver fled on foot through the store, out the backdoor where she tripped and fell. She was then placed into custody.

Several charges are pending against Drew. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
