Cam & Terry Smile After Buzzer Beater For PC MBB

Aberdeen, SD (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation College Saints closed out the Isreal/Strong Classic with a buzzer beater, winning 68-65 over Trinity Bible College on a Denzel McDuffey three pointer as time expired. The win was the Saints fourth consecutive win, and brings their record to 5-5 on the season. The four-game winning streak is their longest since 2018.

These two teams faced off for the second time in 11 days, after the Saints beat the Lions 91-64 on November 2 at Trinity Bible. This game was a much closer affair. The Saints held the lead for most of the game, getting out to as many as an 11-point lead with six minutes left in the first half. The Saints would hold on to a 38-30 lead heading into halftime. The Lions mounted a comeback in the second half, and with just over eight minutes left, they took 53-52 lead.

With just over a minute left in the game, the Saints went ahead by four on a Maximo Guillermo layup. After the two teams traded empty possessions, the missed a three-point shot with 33 seconds left, but Caleb Phillips grabbed the offensive rebound, and was able to lay the ball up, getting the Lions to within two with 19 seconds left. After a timeout, the Saints got the ball across half court, but turned the ball over with 10 seconds left. With just three seconds left, Tyrik Ward was able to get a basket for Trinity Bible, tying the game up at 65. The Saints inbounded the ball to Denzel McDuffey, he brought the ball up court and pulled up from 24 feet, and nailed the three point shot at the buzzer.

The game winning shot capped off an incredible game for McDuffey, as he scored 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and swatted away seven shots. The game was McDuffey’s fourth double-double on the season.

Two other players finished in double digits for the Saints, with Jeremiah Gilyard scoring 11, and Maximo Guillermo scoring 10. Guillermo also grabbed 10 rebounds to secure his first career double-double.
