Candidates for District 5 House offer different views on carbon sequestration

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)–Three Republicans are running for two open seats in the South Dakota House race in District 5, and two of them have very different views on the proposed carbon sequestration pipeline that, if built, would cross the district.

Former Watertown City Attorney Matt Roby has studied the issue, and in the end, presents himself as a pipeline proponent.

Josephine Garcia is a pipeline opponent.

The third candidate in the race, incumbent Representative Byron Callies (kuh-lees’) supports the pipeline.

The three spoke at a candidate forum in Watertown Monday night.
